Recognizing Community Heroes: Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards Nominations Now Open in Knoxville
Knoxville is buzzing with excitement as the annual Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards opens up nominations for truly outstanding volunteers in our community. This fantastic initiative shines a light on both adult and youth volunteers who have devoted their time and effort to make a significant impact across Tennessee’s diverse landscapes.
A Tribute to Exceptional Service
This year, the awards will honor volunteers from each of Tennessee’s 95 counties, allowing people to say thank you to those who often work quietly behind the scenes to support their neighbors. The United Way of Greater Knoxville (UWGK) is taking the reins on the nomination process for several East Tennessee counties, including Anderson, Grainger, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Sevier, and Union counties.
How to Nominate a Community Star
Community members and nonprofit professionals alike are encouraged to nominate dedicated volunteers who deserve some recognition. The deadlines are fast approaching, with all nominations needing to be submitted online by October 25, 2024. If you know someone who has gone above and beyond in service to others, now’s the time to act! Getting involved is easy: just head over to the UWGK website at uwgk.org/vol-stars to make your nomination.
Faculty Voice
Speaking about the importance of recognizing volunteers, UWGK President and CEO Matt Ryerson said, “Our volunteers are the backbone of our communities, providing support during emergencies, mentoring our youth, improving our outdoor spaces, and more.” He emphasizes that these awards are a simple but meaningful way to acknowledge the tremendous work these individuals do for our city.
Who Will Be Honored?
Each participating county will have one finalist from both the youth and adult categories. These lucky stars will be invited to the Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards ceremony taking place in Nashville on February 16, 2025. What a great way to celebrate their hard work and dedication!
