Exciting New Exhibit by Local Artist Jered Sprecher at Candoro Marble Building
Knoxville is buzzing with creativity as local artist Jered Sprecher recently unveiled his latest exhibition titled “Under the Branches.” Located at the Candoro Marble Building, this exhibit is turning heads and capturing hearts in our charming city.
What’s the Buzz About?
It all started with a curious encounter in a parking lot. Jim Maples, owner of the local Southland Wine & Spirits liquor store, was surprised to see someone staring at a boring old brick wall. But this wasn’t just any wall—it’s a fleshy-beige brick wall that had seen better days. Jim, who has owned the building for two decades, reflected on the time he casually painted over the wall after removing a sign for White Realty. He admits he didn’t do a stellar job, leaving behind some chaotic yet intriguing epoxy remnants. And it seems this very imperfection caught the eye of Jered Sprecher.
Jered, who also teaches at the University of Tennessee, found inspiration in the wall’s unique pattern, which he described as reminiscent of a sculptural Jackson Pollock painting. This led him to create a stunning piece titled “Rivulets,” which spans six feet and allows the brick grid to meet the expressive chaos of the epoxy, enhanced with lively colors and glowing strands of cobalt.
Art in Quirky Spaces
The exhibit is hosted in the Tri-Star Arts gallery, known for its cozy and slightly offbeat vibe compared to other art spaces. Director Brian Jobe is dedicated to providing artists with the time they need, often allowing 1.5 to 2 years for them to prepare their works to fit the gallery’s unique atmosphere. This relaxed approach has created a nurturing ground for creativity, perfect for Jered’s intricate art style.
Jered Sprecher’s artwork probes deeper themes, exploring the relationship between nature, technology, and society. His pieces reflect a blend of structure and chaos, layering images that evoke feelings of glitches found in coding. It is this compelling duality that draws viewers in, encouraging them to reflect on the world around them.

“Under the Branches” will be on display until March 29, 2025, giving plenty of time for art enthusiasts and casual viewers alike to check it out.
