Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications Now Open For KCS Families

Knoxville, TN – Families Urged to Apply for Meal Benefits

Families within Knox County Schools (KCS) can now apply for **free and reduced-price meal** benefits as the application process opens for the 2024-25 school year. This initiative aims to ensure that every child in the district has access to **healthy, nutritious meals** throughout the school day.

How to Apply

Applications can be submitted through the **LINQ Connect portal**. Detailed information is available on the portal’s FAQ page. For those who prefer, **paper applications** are also an option. It’s essential to note that a new application must be filled out for each school year.

Who Qualifies?

Children living in households that receive benefits from **SNAP** or **Families First** programs automatically qualify for free meals. Additionally, families whose incomes fall within the limits set by the Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines can also benefit. Importantly, certain schools in the district participate in the **Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)**, eliminating the need for individual meal applications in those schools.

CEP Schools Include:

  • Adrian Burnett Elementary
  • Fulton High
  • Powell Elementary
  • Bearden Middle
  • And many more…

Non-CEP Schools Include:

  • AL Lotts Elementary
  • Farragut High
  • Mill Creek Elementary
  • Bearden High
  • West High
  • And many more…

Guidelines and Nutritional Standards

The program emphasizes that **“children need healthy meals to learn”**, and all meals served will adhere to the **USDA guidelines** for healthy school meals.

Special Circumstances

For Homeless, Migrant, or Runaway Children

If your household lacks a **permanent address**, stays in temporary housing like shelters or hotels, relocates seasonally, or has children who have left their prior families, you may be eligible for these meal benefits.

To clarify eligibility and application details, contact the Knox County Schools Nutrition Department at (865) 594-9563. Full instructions and further assistance are provided by the department to ensure no child is left without access to nutritious meals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to fill out an application for each child? No, use one application for all students in your household.

Can I apply online? Yes, it is recommended to complete the application through **LINQ Connect** for ease and efficiency.

What if my income changes? You may apply at any time during the school year if there are significant changes in your financial situation.
