Knoxville Prepares to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
Knoxville, TN – Starting September 15, the city will mark the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month with a vibrant celebration of Hispanic and Latinx cultures. The upcoming festivities will provide an excellent opportunity for residents and visitors alike to engage with the rich traditions and contributions that these communities bring to East Tennessee.
Bridging Communities
Pedro Tomas, the president of Hola Hora Latina’s Board of Directors, emphasized the importance of these events. “We’re creating bridges between the Hispanic community and the larger community of Knoxville, so that everyone can see what makes us each special, but also what gives us common ground,” he said.
The Hola Hora Festival has a long history in Knoxville. “It started out just as a table at a bookstore,” Tomas recalled. Since then, it has grown significantly, expanding from a small setup to occupying a block of downtown. Eventually, it moved to Market Square and now takes place at World’s Fair Park for its 24th annual event this September.
A Day of Culture
The festival is set to feature a variety of activities that highlight Hispanic culture. Attendees can look forward to traditional music, dance, and food. There will also be several cultural exchange booths that allow participants to learn more about the diverse cultures that contribute to the festival’s atmosphere.

After one night at HoLa Hora Latina, the exhibit will move to the Knoxville Museum of Art on September 18.
September 19 – 2024 Latino Awards
Hosted by Centro Hispano and the Mill & Mine, this year’s Latino Awards will recognize impressive individuals and organizations within the Hispanic community. With cocktails starting at 4:30 pm and a sit-down dinner at 6:00 pm, it promises to be a rewarding evening. This event is not only about recognition but also aims to raise funds for Centro Hispano’s vital work with healthcare, translation, and other community needs. September 21 – HoLa Hora Festival
The much-anticipated HoLa Hora Festival is the crown jewel of Hispanic Heritage celebrations in Knoxville. Kicking off at 11 am, the festival will unfold through the day, boasting an array of music, dancing, and food from various Hispanic cultures. One exciting feature is the parade of nations scheduled for 3 pm, followed by a stunning fireworks display at 9 pm. This event is an all-day affair, welcoming families and individuals to enjoy in a friendly atmosphere until 10 pm.
