Leaf Collection Season Kicks Off in Knoxville!

Hey there, Knoxville residents! Are you ready for the leaf collection season? It’s that wonderful time of year when the leaves turn gorgeous hues of gold, orange, and red, but once they fall, they need to be taken care of! This year, the leaf collection crews will officially start their rounds on Monday, November 4. The City is gearing up to make sure your yard stays neat and tidy while making the most out of those fallen leaves.

How Does It Work?

The Public Service Department will be heading to your neighborhood every other week, ensuring that leaf collection is as smooth as possible. But we can’t do it alone! Your cooperation helps make the process more efficient, so here are a few tips on how to assist us:

  • Rake your leaves into a row at the edge of your property right next to the street. Make sure to pick a spot that’s clear from trees, power poles, vehicles, or mailboxes.
  • It’s crucial to ensure that sidewalks are accessible. We want to keep everything safe and easy for everyone.
  • Keep those leaf piles off the street! Not only does this protect drivers, but it also speeds up the collection process like a breeze!
  • Keep the leaves loose – this means no plastic bags! If you happen to leave bags of leaves at the curb, they’ll be considered bulky waste and will unfortunately head to a landfill instead of being repurposed into something useful.
  • Avoid placing leaves in center medians or islands. Our leaf collection crews need to drive safely, and collecting from the median forces them to take unnecessary risks on one-way streets.

As a friendly reminder, you might catch city contractors helping out by raking leaves from the medians and pushing them to the end caps. Just to clarify, they are gathering leaves that have fallen from city trees and not from homeowners’ yards!

A Little Incentive!

Last season was a success! The City of Knoxville was able to collect over 7,000 tons of leaves, which were then processed into mulch rather than ending up in the landfill. Isn’t that amazing? By working together, we can keep our community looking great while also contributing to sustainability.

What About Brush Collection?

Don’t worry, brush collection will continue during the same November to February timeframe. However, this will be on a less frequent cycle when crews have some extra time on their hands. So if you have branches or other types of brush to get rid of, you might need to be patient!

Stay Informed!

For anyone curious about when exactly your neighborhood is scheduled for leaf collection, you can find all the necessary details on the City’s website. It’s super easy to access the information you need to make sure your yard is ready when the crews come around!

So gear up, grab your rake, and let’s make this leaf collection season in Knoxville the most efficient one yet! Thank you for your collaboration, and let’s keep Knoxville looking fabulous this fall!
