Co-owned by Ryker Trombly and Drake Johnson, the shop aims to enhance the retail experience with offerings from several local artisans. Set to host a grand opening event in late June, The Revival positions itself as a vibrant hub in the growing artistic community of Knoxville.
Knoxville – A new vintage and art shop named The Revival officially opened its doors to the public on May 17, 2023. Located in the Medical Arts Building at 825 Locust Street, Suite 103, in downtown Knoxville, the shop aims to blend vintage clothing, collectibles, and local art, a growing niche in the region. Co-owners Ryker Trombly and Drake Johnson hope that this space will serve as a long-term home for their business as they bring a fresh retail experience to the area.
After drawing attention from foot traffic that has quickly increased, aided by their participation in local outdoor markets, The Revival features six distinct sections of merchandise, alongside offerings from three additional vendors. The shop has notably positioned itself as a hub for those seeking a variety of items, from vintage clothing ranging from the 1960s to the 1990s priced between $2 and $1,000, to guitars and related equipment, which they plan to expand in the future.
Johnson originally scouted the Medical Arts Building for a possible audiology clinic before shifting focus towards retail. Transferring to Knoxville from Greeneville, Tennessee, he contacted Trombly, a longtime high school friend, to explore the possibility of opening a business together. Trombly, who has a background in selling vintage shoes and clothing, relocated to Knoxville in late April to join Johnson in this venture.
The Revival has made significant efforts to feature local artists as part of their inventory. Artists were sought out during the Dogwood Arts Festival, and some of the notable contributors include Garrett Durland, whose work showcases 3D-printed ceramic art; Susan Watson, known for her unique stained glass creations that have been displayed at Dollywood; and Swartz Brothers Art, specializing in animal-themed artwork.
The store operates Wednesday through Sunday from 11 am to 9 pm. Plans are already underway for a grand opening event scheduled for June 27 and 28, which will feature an Extraterrestrial/Alien theme complete with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music, and live demonstrations to attract more visitors. Additionally, the shop intends to debut a UT-themed wall displaying custom-made and vintage apparel for Volunteers fans, increasing the variety of their inventory.
As business expands, The Revival also aims to serve as an event venue for other groups. For inquiries, individuals can contact the store via email at revivalknoxville@gmail.com or by phone at 720-376-2377. The shop has also established a presence on Instagram under the handle @revivalknoxville.
The atmosphere of the Medical Arts Building remains uncertain as the status of its units is currently in flux. However, the opening of The Revival contributes to the vibrancy of downtown Knoxville and signals a growing interest in vintage and artistic retail ventures within the community.
As The Revival establishes itself in the local market, it joins a burgeoning scene of eclectic shops that cater to both vintage lovers and art enthusiasts, hoping to carve out a niche in a city increasingly known for its appreciation of unique and locally-sourced goods.
