Storm clouds gather over a school as severe weather approaches East Tennessee.
In East Tennessee, many schools are facing closures and delays due to severe weather conditions including heavy rain, high winds, and potential wildfires. A 10Weather Impact Alert has been issued as storms are expected to bring risks such as downed power lines and road debris. Some schools in Monroe County are temporarily closed while crews battle wildfires. With a winter storm warning predicted for the following days, local officials stress the importance of safety and preparedness for the community.
Good day, East Tennessee! It seems that Mother Nature is stirring things up in our neck of the woods. Due to a strong front sweeping across the region, some schools will either be closed or opening late on Wednesday. A 10Weather Impact Alert is currently buzzing, signaling that heavy rain and high winds are making their way to our area. It’s that time of year where we need to be extra cautious!
As the skies darken, we’ve seen reports of several power outages flickering across our region. These conditions have prompted safety warnings, including High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories. There’s a genuine possibility of downed trees, power lines, and other challenges. Community members are strongly advised to secure any loose objects in their yards and ensure their devices are fully charged, just in case of an emergency. And be careful while driving out there; keep an eye out for any road debris!
Additionally, in Monroe County, some schools in the Tellico Plains area will be *temporarily closed* as crews battle wildfires in the area. Safety comes first, and the well-being of our students is a priority.
With the storm’s path leaving a trail of downed trees and damaged power lines, Tornado Warnings were extended into parts of Knox County and reached into the bustling Knoxville metropolitan area by 9 p.m. Thankfully, by 10:30 p.m., these warnings expired, but not without making their mark. Reports indicated significant damage and injuries in areas like Deer Lodge due to the tornado, with at least 900 customers in Morgan County losing power. Yikes!
In an effort to assist those affected, Wartburg Central High School opened its doors as a safe shelter for individuals seeking refuge after the storms. What a comforting thought! In the spirit of community, the Tennessee Highway Patrol even deployed about 30 troopers to assist with damage assessments and help search for anyone who may need assistance.
In fact, Fentress County Schools have already announced a snow day for January 10. That means sledding, hot cocoa, and cozy blankets could be just around the corner! But, keep your ears open and stay tuned as schools across East Tennessee reevaluate the weather situation in the coming days. Safety is key, and local officials are always looking out for our best interest!
So, East Tennessee, brace yourselves! With everything happening around us, let’s stay informed, stay safe, and take care of each other. Make sure to check on your neighbors, especially the elderly, and keep an eye on the kids as the weather unfolds. And remember, there’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing! Let’s ride this storm together!
