Local runners celebrating together.
This week, the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon and the Knoxville Track and Field Club handed over checks totaling $15,000 to two community partners, showcasing their commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles and supporting local organizations.
On Monday, race director Jason Altman presented a $10,000 check to the Boys & Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley (BGCTNV). This organization has partnered with the marathon for the upcoming year to create running clubs within its facilities. These clubs aim to inspire children to take part in the Covenant Kids Run and lead more active lives.
Bart McFadden, President and CEO of BGCTNV, expressed his appreciation for this partnership. “Our collaboration with the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon is a fantastic chance for our young members to learn the importance of running and staying active. The funds we’ve received help us provide these valuable experiences to over 7,500 kids in East Tennessee,” he shared.
The following day, the marathon presented a $5,000 check to the Patricia Neal Outpatient Center’s Innovative Recreation Cooperative. This organization focuses on developing life skills through adaptive sports. They work closely with the marathon to provide opportunities for handcycling and race chair participants.
These participants have even gone on to compete in various national and international races, proving that running can be for everyone, regardless of their physical challenges. Al Kaye, a clinical specialist within the IRC, highlighted the impact of this support. “The engagement from the marathon and the Track Club truly helps our community. It promotes active, healthy lives while providing invaluable opportunities for those who might not otherwise have them.”
Registration for the 2025 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon has officially started! Spanning over the weekend of April 5 and 6, 2025, the event will feature a full marathon, half-marathon, relays, and a 5K race. This is a great chance not just to participate in a local race but also to show support for these wonderful community initiatives.
Events like these reflect our city’s dedication to fostering a vibrant and healthy community. The donations made by the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon and the Knoxville Track Club will have lasting effects on children and participants who benefit from their programs.
In summary, Knoxville is fortunate to have organizations that are not only focused on running but also committed to lifting up our community members. The investment of $15,000 towards local causes is a reminder that running can be a powerful tool for change, helping build a healthier, brighter future for everyone.
