LOS ANGELES — Milwaukee finished off Los Angeles, the two-time reigning World Series champs, on Thursday night, taking National League Championship Series Game 4 by a 6-4 score at Dodger Stadium and completing a four-game sweep that sends the franchise back to the Fall Classic for the first time since 1982.
Los Angeles jumped ahead 4-0 in the second after Shohei Ohtani finally went deep in October. The Brewers clawed back, and Garrett Mitchell flipped the lead in the sixth: down 0-2, he worked Tanner Scott to a full count and drove a leadoff solo into center. David Hamilton later padded it with a two-out ninth-inning solo off Edwin Diaz.
The Milwaukee bullpen slammed the door. Aaron Ashby blanked the Dodgers over three innings for the save, including strikeouts and soft contact with the tying run on in the seventh and eighth. Earlier, JoJo Romero ended the sixth by freezing Max Muncy with a runner standing on third. Jake Bauers took NLCS MVP after a series in which Milwaukee trailed every night yet still swept — the first best-of-seven postseason set won that way.
These Brewers went 103-59 in the regular season, tops in the majors, then added three NLDS wins and four more here. They outslugged Los Angeles 7-1 in homers across the NLCS after the same Dodgers had swept them a year earlier. Captain Christian Yelich had kept saying belief in the group still mattered after those prior exits; Pat Murphy framed the week as a hungry club on an even field, while Dave Roberts said Milwaukee played clean enough that Los Angeles had to tip its cap.
Game 1 of the Fall Classic is set for Oct. 23 at American Family Field, with Cleveland or Tampa Bay still settling the American League side. Milwaukee sits on a short break after 110 wins across 170 meaningful games this year.
