NASHVILLE, Tenn. — One win into the season, Titans coach Robert Saleh spent Monday pointing at what still has to get better, starting with an offense he called hit or miss.
Tennessee rallied from a 13-0 halftime hole to beat Indianapolis 26-20 on Sunday, scoring the next 20 points and holding on when a last-play Hail Mary from Colts quarterback Daniel Jones fell incomplete. It was the first victory of 2026 after six weeks without one.
On a video call with reporters a day later, Saleh said the team has to convert more third downs, create more explosive plays and execute better. He gave quarterback Cam Ward credit for some solid moments against the Colts but said Ward, as the face of the offense, must raise his level, while stressing that the problems are not all on the passer.
The defense and kicking units carried the day. Tennessee piled up six sacks, and Saleh called it the best game of the season for his defensive front. Defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons was everywhere, with two of those sacks, six tackles, a fumble he forced and another he recovered. On special teams, linebacker James Williams Sr. blocked a punt that edge rusher Femi Oladejo returned for a touchdown, a play Saleh credited to coordinator John Fassel and his staff.
Rookie receiver Carnell Tate, the fourth overall pick, had six catches for 70 yards, and one of them was the first touchdown of his NFL career. Saleh said the game is slowing down for Tate and his confidence is rising. Safety Amani Hooker picked off a pass early and nearly had a second late.
One question lingers. Starting cornerback Alontae Taylor was a surprise inactive Sunday, and Joshua Williams started in his place. Saleh did not explain the move and said the staff will discuss Taylor and decide what is best for the team.
The Titans return to Nissan Stadium on Sunday to face the Cleveland Browns.
