Fayetteville, Arkansas – The Arkansas Razorbacks baseball team secured their place in the 2025 Men’s College World Series (CWS) by defeating the defending national champions, the Tennessee Volunteers, with a score of 11-4 on June 8. This victory marked the culmination of the Fayetteville Super Regional, where Arkansas prevailed in a best-of-three series against Tennessee, advancing to Omaha for the championship tournament.

Arkansas showcased a powerful offensive performance, highlighted by Logan Maxwell’s pivotal grand slam, which allowed the Razorbacks to take control in the fourth inning. With two outs and a 3-1 lead at the time, Maxwell’s home run significantly extended Arkansas’s advantage, effectively breaking the game open. The Razorbacks’ victory came after a solid season, finishing with a formidable record of 47-13.

In the contest, the Volunteers struggled offensively, managing only eight hits throughout the game. Despite later efforts in the eighth and ninth innings that included a two-run home run by pinch hitter Jay Abernathy, Tennessee could not overcome the deficit. Arkansas’s Cole Gibler recorded the win in relief, while Tennessee’s starter, Liam Doyle, suffered the loss, ending the season with a 10-4 record.

The Razorbacks are set to face the winner of the Baton Rouge Super Regional, which features LSU and West Virginia. The Men’s College World Series is scheduled to take place at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha from June 13 to June 22/23. The tournament follows a double-elimination format leading up to a best-of-three championship series.

The NCAA Division I baseball tournament began with a field of 64 teams, progressing through regionals and super regionals. This year’s super regionals occurred from June 6-9 at various locations nationwide. Since 2025, the tournament includes 29 conference champions receiving automatic berths, along with 35 teams selected as at-large entries.

In the super regional, Arkansas and Tennessee faced off for the second time after a highly contested Game 1 on June 7, which saw Tennessee rally with Andrew Fischer’s solo home run, narrowing the margin to 4-3. Ultimately, only one Southeastern Conference (SEC) team could advance, resulting in Tennessee’s elimination and Arkansas’s triumphant continuation of their postseason journey.

As Arkansas prepares for the 2025 Men’s College World Series, expectations are high for their performance, continuing their pursuit for the title and adding to their storied baseball legacy.
