Remembering Darell E. Wall Sr.: A Life of Service and Laughter
Knoxville, Tennessee is saying goodbye to a remarkable man, Darell E. Wall Sr., who peacefully departed this world on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the age of 82. Just a few days shy of his birthday, Darell’s journey began on September 23, 1942, in the charming town of Natchez, Mississippi. Over the years, he carved out a life rich in service, family, and, of course, that delightful sense of humor that many will remember him for.
A Man of Service
Darell took to the skies and seas as a proud U.S. Navy Veteran. His commitment to his country was a cornerstone of his identity. After his time in the military, he transitioned into the bustling world of railroads, where he dedicated himself to upper-level management at Norfolk Southern Railroad. His work ethic and leadership were hallmarks of his professional life, contributing significantly to the industry.
Community Spirit
Beyond the workplace, Darell was deeply rooted in his local community. He was a cherished member of both the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge, where camaraderie and service to others flourished. Through these organizations, he not only built lasting friendships but also contributed to the betterment of those around him.
A Family Man
At home, Darell’s heart was undoubtedly in his family. His legacy continues through his loving wife, Linda Wall, and his children: Sharon Cross, Buddy Wall, Darell Wall Jr. (who is married to Wendy), Christy Jackson (who is married to Stephen), and Tracy Joyner (married to Ernie Jr). His family was his pride and joy, and nothing made him happier than cooking up a storm for them and sharing a laugh.
A Grandfather Like No Other
Darell’s impact extended to the next generation. He was a doting grandfather to his grandchildren, who adored him. Their names—like Stephanie Hembree, Jeremy Cross, Makenzie Stachnik, and many more—reflect the countless precious moments they shared together. From telling silly jokes to pun-filled lessons in the kitchen, he created memories that his grandkids will hold dear forever.
Remembering Those Who Passed
While celebrating a life well-lived, it’s important to remember those that Darell has been reunited with. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard G. Wall and Dora S. Wall; his first wife, Louise G. Wall; his son, Richard Wall; his brother, David Wall; and his son-in-law, Stan Cross. The love and memories shared with them are now part of Darell’s everlasting story.
Final Farewell
Family, friends, and loved ones are invited to pay their respects. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM ET at Evans Mortuary in Rockwood. Following the visitation, there will be graveside services at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, where Darell will receive full military honors from both the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard.
As we remember Darell E. Wall Sr., let us celebrate a life richly lived, full of laughter, love, and the joy he brought into so many lives. Though he may be gone, his spirit and warmth will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
