In Remembrance of Margie H. LeCoultre
In a poignant footnote to this event, the Knox County Retired Teachers Association will remember one of its esteemed members, Margie H. LeCoultre, who passed away on March 22, 2025, at the age of 87. Margie was a dedicated educator for 54 years, beginning her teaching career at Lincoln Elementary School in Kingsport, Tennessee, and later at West Haven Elementary School in Knoxville.
Her distinguished career included principal positions at several schools, such as Giffin Elementary, Alice Bell Elementary, Cedar Bluff Intermediate, and Ridgedale Elementary in Knoxville. She was known for her commitment to education and her significant contributions to the field, obtaining her Doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Tennessee in 1979.
A Lifelong Commitment to Education
Margie’s legacy includes the co-development of the 5th Year Intern Individualized Instruction Model for the University of Tennessee Teacher Education from 1994 to 2000, along with her role as Supervisor of the Pre-Intern and Intern Program at Ridgedale Elementary from 1995 to 2000. Her commitment to fostering new educators was recognized with multiple accolades, including two Best Awards from the Knoxville area Chamber of Commerce. She was an active member of professional leadership programs, including Leadership Education Class of 1991 and Leadership Knoxville in 1998.
Personal Life and Legacy
Outside of her academic and professional life, Margie was known for her deep family connections. She was married to David George LeCoultre since 1955, and they were long-time members of Cumberland Baptist Church since 1967. They traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states and making several trips to Europe, particularly Switzerland, to see David’s family.
Margie is survived by her daughter, Susan, son-in-law Don Lawson, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband David, her parents, and her daughter Laura Deanne LeCoultre Lawson.
Family and friends are invited to pay their final respects on March 27, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, located at 2300 W. Adair Dr., Knoxville, TN. A graveside service will follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Kent Williams, Dr. Chad Crawford, and Mr. Dick Sampsel.
