News Summary

Chad Brooks, a teacher at West High School, faces multiple charges of aggravated statutory rape following an investigation into inappropriate conduct with students.

Knoxville, Tennessee – Chad Brooks, a 32-year-old social studies teacher and assistant football coach at West High School, has been indicted by a Knox County grand jury on multiple counts of aggravated statutory rape and statutory rape by an authority figure. The indictment comes after Brooks was arrested by the Morristown Police Department on the evening of May 10. His arrest is the culmination of an investigation initiated by the Knoxville Police Department’s Special Crimes Unit, triggered by allegations of inappropriate conduct with both current and former students.

In early April, before the culmination of the investigation, Brooks was placed on paid administrative leave from West High School. Following his arrest, Knox County Schools announced that Brooks’s contract would not be renewed for the 2025-26 school year. He was later booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility, but has since been released on a GPS monitoring device.

Brooks has been associated with Knox County Schools for several years. His tenure began in July 2017 when he was hired as an educational assistant at West High School. He progressed to a teaching role, officially becoming a teacher on August 4, 2022, upon completing his student teaching requirements.

The investigations into Brooks’s actions by the Knoxville Police Department have revealed serious accusations that have raised significant concerns within the community. In response to the allegations, KPD is urging anyone who may have been affected by this situation or who possesses information about similar incidents to come forward. Individuals can report any related claims to the Department of Children’s Services through their online portal, or by contacting KPD’s Special Crimes Unit directly at 865-215-6810. Reports can also be made in person at the Knoxville Family Justice Center, where support services are available for those in need.

This case underscores the critical nature of protecting students within educational institutions, and the serious consequences when trust is allegedly breached by those in positions of authority. Community responses indicate deep concern regarding the allegations, and the district’s actions reflect a commitment to ensuring student safety and well-being.

As the legal process unfolds, the focus remains on addressing the allegations thoroughly and cautiously, while providing necessary support to students and families impacted by these events. The investigation is ongoing, and additional updates are anticipated as further details emerge.
