Community members are encouraged to remember those who served while adapting to these changes.

Knoxville will observe the Memorial Day holiday with several office closures and modified services. Residents should plan accordingly as multiple city services will be unavailable on this federal holiday.

On Memorial Day, the 311 Center for Service Innovation will be closed, which means residents will not be able to access the 311 and 211 phone numbers for assistance. However, those in need can utilize the My Knoxville app to report issues or to access 211 services. Additionally, neighborhood problems such as potholes, graffiti, and overgrown lots can still be reported via email. Residents are also encouraged to visit 211.org for local services on the holiday.

Knoxville’s Solid Waste Facility, located at 1033 Elm Street, will be closed starting Saturday, May 24, and will not reopen until Tuesday, May 27. Despite this closure, Waste Connections will continue to operate residential garbage and recycling routes on Monday, May 26. Moreover, downtown trash and recyclables collection will still take place as usual on Memorial Day.

While Knoxville’s four recycling drop-off centers will remain available for use on Memorial Day, it is important to note that the Goodwill attendant will not be present to accept household goods donations during the closure.

Furthermore, Knoxville Area Transit will run on a Sunday schedule for Memorial Day. This means that public transit services will operate with adjusted hours, similar to those on a typical Sunday, allowing residents to plan their travels accordingly.

The Memorial Day holiday is a time for the community to come together and honor those who have served in the armed forces. As such, it is essential for residents to be aware of these changes to city services and to adjust their plans in advance. The city aims to ensure that essential services are available while also allowing employees to observe the holiday.

Residents are reminded to use the available resources, such as online reporting and mobile applications, to ensure that their needs are met despite the office closures. The adjustments to service schedules during holidays are a standard practice to balance community support with the recognition of important commemorative days.

For more information on specific services, residents can check the official city website or contact relevant departments before the holiday.
