NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans will keep Cam Ward as their starting quarterback in Nashville, Tenn., first-year coach Robert Saleh said Sunday after a 26-3 loss to Houston dropped the team to 0-5.
Saleh said after the game that the team will give Ward every chance to succeed this season and keep working with him rather than turn to veteran Mitchell Trubisky on the bench.
Ward went 23-for-36 for 170 yards with no touchdowns and one interception against the Texans. He was sacked four times, all within the final 11 minutes, as Tennessee managed 187 total yards in its worst offensive game of the season.
Ward faced pressure on 21 dropbacks, the second most in a game in his career, and went 9-for-16 for 70 yards under pressure. For the season he has thrown for 896 yards at 5.8 yards per attempt, with three touchdowns and three interceptions, all of the picks coming in the past three games.
Through four games, Ward averaged a league-low 2.6 yards per attempt under pressure. Entering Week 5 he ranked 20th in the NFL in passer rating, 23rd in passing yards and 25th in EPA per dropback.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft is now 3-19 as a starter. The Titans are 6-33 since the start of the 2024 season and own the lowest-scoring offense in the NFL.
Ward said the team has to correct its mistakes quickly and that the errors are ones the players have already seen on film. He said he will keep working with offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney to keep the offense on the field.
