FARRAGUT, Tenn. — A driver died early Saturday when a vehicle crashed on Campbell Station Road in front of Farragut Primary School, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were sent to the wreck at about 3:03 a.m. Only one vehicle was involved, and the person behind the wheel was the only one inside. That driver died of injuries from the crash.
The sheriff’s office closed part of the road while crews worked. At about 4:45 a.m., the agency asked drivers to stay away from the 500 block of Campbell Station Road. A little before 6 a.m., it said its Tango Unit, the team that reconstructs serious crashes, was still at the scene working out what led to the wreck.
Campbell Station Road is a busy route for commuters and for families headed to schools in Farragut, so the closure touched one of the main north-south links on the west side of Knox County.
The driver has not been identified. The sheriff’s office said the name would be released once relatives are told and promised more details as the investigation moves forward. No cause has been given.
The sheriff’s office has not said when the closed stretch reopened, or whether speed, weather or some other factor played a part.
Tennessee has logged 740 fatal crashes so far in 2026, and Knox County accounts for 46 of that total. By the close of October last year, the statewide figure had reached 836, with Knox County at 50. That leaves the state 96 fatal crashes behind last year’s pace and the county four behind, though each one still means a family getting the worst kind of news.
Anyone who saw the crash or what happened just before it can contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
