The neighborhood is known for its concentration of Craftsman bungalows built after the 1911 platting of the Island Home Park subdivision, on tree-lined streets bordering the Tennessee School for the Deaf campus.
History
The land was originally part of Perez Dickinson's Island Home Farm, purchased in 1869. The Island Home Park subdivision was platted in 1911, and the Tennessee School for the Deaf relocated to the adjacent site in 1924. Notable past residents include Arthur Morgan, the first chairman of the Tennessee Valley Authority; Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Paul Y. Anderson; and Tony Award-winning actor John Cullum.
